My Asian Summer: Backpacking Asia with a Five Year Old Paperback –13 Jul 2018 by Laura Pauley (Author)
After discovering she was pregnant, Laura quickly found herself single, homeless and jobless. In 2010 she released a book about her struggle, ‘My Summer Bump’.
Five years later and Laura took her daughter, Summer, backpacking around Hong Kong, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, working as elephant and bear keepers, living with a local family in the Thai jungle and visiting numerous orphanages.
After four years of working on the book, ‘My Asian Summer’ was finally released in September 2018. The book covers subjects such as the torture of animals, the Khmear Rouge, the Vietnam War and poverty, as well as stories of those Laura met along the way; providing an unexpected and thought-provoking insight into the wonderful and adventurous world of travelling.
This creative non-fiction is an entertaining read thanks to the pair’s unlikely travel companion, with storylines reading as a fictional chic-lit novel would.
Laura’s books have received lots of press attention with features in Fabulous, The Sun, BBC Sussex, BBC Surrey, The Portsmouth News, Mother and Baby Magazine, Pregnancy and Birth. The Chichester Observer, The Chichester Post, Wave 105, Heart FM, The Chichester News.
Outside of writing Laura works as a Senior Press and Communications Officer and is a former reporter.
